Five precincts from Titusville to the Sarno Road building in Melbourne, one non-emergency line, and the rules on who patrols Palm Bay, Malabar, Micco and Barefoot Bay.

Short answer: The Brevard County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Wayne Ivey, polices unincorporated Brevard plus Cape Canaveral and Palm Shores from five precincts. What does the Brevard County Sheriff's Office cover?

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is the law enforcement agency for every unincorporated part of Brevard, including Micco and Barefoot Bay, and it also polices Cape Canaveral and Palm Shores under its precinct map.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey leads the agency. The Supervisor of Elections lists him as elected countywide, with the office at 700 South Park Avenue in Titusville, a main line of (321) 264-5201 and a current term that ends January 2, 2029. The next election for the seat is November 7, 2028, which follows Florida Statutes 100.041: each county chooses its sheriff, clerk, property appraiser and tax collector at the general election in years that are a multiple of 4.

State law sets the boundary lines. Florida Statutes 30.15 gives the sheriff exclusive policing jurisdiction in the unincorporated areas of each county, and it says the sheriff's jurisdiction runs throughout the entire county, concurrent with any city police department. The same statute bars the Brevard County Commission from setting up its own police force for unincorporated land, which is why a Micco or Barefoot Bay address is served by deputies rather than by a county police department.

The agency's Units and Services page calls the Brevard County Sheriff's Office a full-service law enforcement agency providing patrol, aviation, SWAT and K9, with court services that include civil process, plus animal services and enforcement. It puts the county's population at approximately 670,000 residents and notes millions of visitors drawn by Port Canaveral cruise traffic and launches from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

The Sheriff's Office also runs dispatch at county scale. Its Unified Communications Center, located in the Emergency Operations Center in Rockledge, dispatches law enforcement, fire rescue and medical calls within the county and for several cities, according to the same page. Law enforcement in the unincorporated county is funded in part through a Law Enforcement MSTU that appears among the taxing authorities on Brevard property tax bills, listed by the Brevard County Tax Collector.

Which precinct covers Palm Bay, Malabar, Micco and Barefoot Bay?

South Brevard's unincorporated addresses, including Micco and Barefoot Bay, fall to the South Precinct at 1515 Sarno Road, Building B, Melbourne, while Palm Bay and Melbourne have their own city police departments.

The Precincts page says the five precincts are drawn from geographic unincorporated areas of the county plus the cities of Cape Canaveral and Palm Shores, and that each is supervised by a Precinct Major. Every precinct lists office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The South Precinct publishes a dedicated non-emergency line for Barefoot Bay and Micco, (772) 663-6269.

Palm Bay runs its own department. The City of Palm Bay directs residents to the Palm Bay Police Department lobby or to the department's non-emergency number, (321) 952-3456. The Tax Collector's list of taxing authorities carries a separate Melbourne Police (DBTP) line, and the Sheriff's FAQ names the Melbourne Police Department as its own agency. The Sheriff's statewide-law jurisdiction still overlaps both cities under Florida Statutes 30.15.

Malabar and Grant-Valkaria are towns rather than unincorporated land, and neither appears by name on the Sheriff's precinct page. The Town of Malabar departments page lists Building, Fire, Public Works, Solid Waste, Stormwater and town administration, with no police department of its own; Town Hall is at 2725 Malabar Road, (321) 727-7764. The Tax Collector lists the Town of Grant-Valkaria at (321) 951-1380. Questions about how deputies patrol inside either town's limits go to the South Precinct or to Town Hall.

How is a deputy reached for a non-emergency?

A deputy is reached for non-urgent matters at 321-264-5100, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line, while 911 remains the number for anything immediate.

The Sheriff's Contact Us page gives that number and warns that its online Get in Touch form is not monitored around the clock. The form routes messages to Animal Services, Community Services, the Evidence Unit, PIO and Media Relations, the Recruitment Unit and each of the five precincts, from Precinct Canaveral to Precinct West. It is not the channel for public records, appearance requests or formal complaints, which each have their own process.

Residents also have walk-in options. The Sheriff's FAQs say a non-emergency report can be made by calling 321-264-5100 and asking for a deputy, or by visiting any precinct; for a South Brevard household that usually means the Sarno Road building in Melbourne during weekday office hours. Vendors who need an off-duty deputy detail go through the BCSO Off-Duty Coordinator at 321-264-5206, extension 54963, Monday through Friday.

Two services run through the precinct covering the home. Vacation house checks must be requested at least five days before departure, using the precinct numbers on the FAQ page: North 321-264-5208, Canaveral 321-868-1113, East 321-454-6652, West 321-633-2123 and South 321-253-6658. Unwanted prescription pills, patches and pet medications in pill form can be dropped at any of the five precinct locations; liquids, syringes, inhalers, aerosols and chemotherapy drugs are not accepted, and the FAQ notes that Melbourne Police Department also provides a drop-off location.

How are Sheriff's Office public records requested, and what do copies cost?

Brevard County Sheriff's Office public records are requested through the agency's online request form, by email or at any precinct, and an invoice follows once staff have reviewed the request for exemptions.

The Public Records Requests page says Brevard County Sheriff's Office requests require research and review for statutory exemptions and cannot be completed the same day. Requesters are told to rely on the invoice for actual costs, and the published reproduction schedule sets the starting points shown below. A labor charge applies when a request takes 15 or more minutes to fill, and an advance deposit may be required for extensive requests.

Sheriff's Office records reproduction fees (Public Records Requests page, October 2026)

Case report, double-sided copy$0.20

Payment options at the Sheriff's Office include the Pay Online button, money order, cashier's check, cash, business check and credit card; personal checks are not accepted. The Sheriff home page adds that Pay Online covers items such as records, summons and writs, therapy canine services and off-duty employment. For anyone who prefers paper over email, the home page gives the written address as Brevard County Sheriff's Office, 700 Park Ave., Titusville FL 32780, and reminds the public that email addresses sent to the agency are public records under Florida law.

What do deputies do at the courthouses and in the schools?

Brevard County Sheriff's Office deputies secure all three courthouses of the 18th Judicial Circuit in Brevard, including the South Brevard Courthouse on Nieman Avenue in Melbourne, and staff school resource posts with Brevard Public Schools.

The Court Services page says Court Security fulfills the Sheriff's constitutional responsibility to provide law enforcement and security to the courts of the 18th Judicial Circuit within Brevard County, covering courtrooms, buildings and courthouse parking areas. The three buildings it lists are the Vasser B. Carlton Historic Titusville Courthouse at 504 Palm Ave, the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Justice Center at 2825 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera, and the South Brevard Courthouse at 51 South Nieman Ave, Melbourne. Florida Statutes 30.15 also directs every sheriff to execute the process of the circuit and county courts and to attend their sessions, which is the legal root of the civil process work on the Units and Services list. Fees for that work are set statewide by Florida Statutes 30.231: $40 for each summons or writ served, and $50 more for writs that require a levy or seizure of property. In South Brevard, the South Precinct on Sarno Road lists a civil line at (321) 735-6829.

Schools are the other big assignment. The District and School Security page says the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Brevard Public Schools, oversees the School Resource Officers program and the Guardian and Specialists programs, working with private schools as well. The office is at 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera, (321) 633-1000, extension 11233, and it promotes the anonymous Speakout Hotline at 800-423-TIPS (8477) for students and parents.

Accreditation applies to the patrol side of the agency. The Accreditation page says Brevard County Sheriff's Office law enforcement is accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, an independent review against state standards; questions about it go to 321-264-7741.

Which community programs does the Sheriff's Office run in South Brevard?

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office Community Services Unit, reached at 321-264-7755, runs countywide programs that reach South Brevard directly, from Project Lifesaver tracking bracelets to the Teen Driver Challenge held at Eastern Florida State College in Palm Bay.

The Community Services page describes Project Lifesaver as a program for residents with dementia, Alzheimer's, Down syndrome and other cognitive disorders who may wander: an enrolled participant wears a bracelet with an individual frequency that deputies can track. The Teen Driver Challenge is a free one-day, eight-hour course for licensed or permitted drivers aged 15 to 19, taught by deputies on a driving pad at the Palm Bay campus of Eastern Florida State College. Many class dates on the page are marked full.

Exchange Zones are a practical service for online sales. Camera-monitored parking areas at the North, South, East and West Precincts are set aside for property exchanges and child custody handoffs, so a Micco or Malabar seller can meet a buyer outside the Sarno Road precinct under 24-hour recording. Free shred events run from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with a limit of two boxes per person; the 2026 list includes September 24 at 7960 Highway 1 in Micco and November 19 at the Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce, 5240 Babcock Street NE.

Other offerings include the CHANCE communication card for people with special needs, home and business security surveys, Neighborhood Watch start-ups and an Explorer program for ages 13 to 17. The Community Services page also refers to the 1,700 men and women of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. Last verified: October 11, 2026, on the Brevard County Sheriff's Office website.
