When is the Sebastian Riverfront Fine Art and Music Festival?
The Sebastian Riverfront Fine Art and Music Festival is held over a weekend in mid-January at Riverview Park, and the next edition is scheduled for Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17, 2027.
The festival's own site gives the 2027 hours as 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday (Sebastian Riverfront Fine Art and Music Festival). The 2026 edition, billed as the 24th Annual, ran Saturday, January 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverview Park, with over 100 fine artists, four bands, food, beer and wine (Sebastian Daily, January 10, 2026).
The City of Sebastian treats the show as the opening event of its riverfront year: its Government page states that the City hosts the Sebastian Fine Arts and Music Festival in mid-January, ahead of the March shrimp festival and the November Clambake (City of Sebastian). The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce also files it under January (Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce).

The 2024 dates and hours come from Sebastian Daily's January 16, 2024 preview (Sebastian Daily), and the 2022 dates and its count of more than 130 participating artists from its December 27, 2021 preview (Sebastian Daily). Admission and parking at Riverview Park have been free.
How long has the Sebastian festival run?
The festival began in 1999, the year of the City of Sebastian's 75th anniversary, which makes January 2027 its 28th winter on the Sebastian riverfront.
Sebastian Daily tied the start to the city's anniversary in its 2019 preview, when the show was the 18th Annual (Sebastian Daily, January 14, 2019). Vero News gave the same 1999 founding date for the not-for-profit in 2024 (Vero News, March 7, 2024). The edition numbers run behind the calendar because the count was not kept year for year: Vero News described the January 2010 show as the 9th annual festival, though the 10th year it had been held (Vero News, January 24, 2010).
The Sebastian crowds grew fast in that decade. More than 8,000 people visited the riverfront on the Saturday of the 2010 show, taking in 115 art booths of glasswork, wood carving, photography, metalwork and painting. The 2011 preview put the previous year's turnout at about 16,000 and described a layout encompassing most of Indian River Drive and the east end of Sebastian Boulevard (Vero News, January 21, 2011).
The Sebastian show kept growing after that. The 2012 edition drew 120 artists, and the organization reported it had taken that long to break even (Vero News, January 22, 2012). By 2019, Vero News counted work from 130 juried artists at Riverview Park (Vero News, January 24, 2019), and the 2019 Sebastian Daily listing estimated that the festival draws more than 20,000 residents and visitors a year.
Weather is the one recurring disruption on the Sebastian riverfront in January. The 2023 show was cut short by a day because of inclement weather, according to Vero News, while the 2024 weekend was sunny but cool and blustery (Vero News).
What is shown and played at Riverview Park?
The Riverview Park show is a juried sale of original work by more than 100 artists in ten media categories, with one band in the morning and one in the afternoon on each day.
The 2026 artist list in Sebastian Daily was grouped into drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, jewelry, mixed media, pottery, leather and fiber, wood, and glass (Sebastian Daily). Vero News reported in 2024 that the Sebastian show is juried by members of the festival board and a few remote judges (Vero News). The organizer posts Best in Show and first to third place winners on its site each year.
A Sebastian emerging artists program began in 2013. That year the festival committee chose three first-time exhibitors to show gratis, buying tents for them and covering their space, as part of the educational side of the festival's purpose (Vero News, January 18, 2013). The festival's site still invites applications from emerging artists.
Music is local and regional. The 2026 Sebastian lineup put HairPeace and the Valerie Tyson Band on stage Saturday and Swamp Lily and Vibes Farm on Sunday, each in a three-hour or two-hour slot beside the Indian River Lagoon. Food tents and a beer and wine area run along the water during show hours.
Who organizes the festival, and what does the CRA fund?
The festival is run by the Sebastian Riverfront Fine Art and Music Festival, Inc., a volunteer not-for-profit, with the City of Sebastian as co-sponsor and the Sebastian CRA funding riverfront events since 2000.
The organization is a 501(c)(3) whose stated purpose is to promote interest in and appreciation of the arts within the City of Sebastian and its environs, to encourage the creative arts in children through scholarships and grants, and to create art in public places (festival site). Vero News reported in 2024 that it has seven board members, all volunteers.
Public money comes through the Sebastian Community Redevelopment Agency, whose accomplishments list records continued financial support for Riverfront District events that attract participants and bring revenue to local businesses, naming the Clam Bake, Shrimpfest, the Concerts in the Park series and the Fine Art Festival since 2000 (City of Sebastian CRA). In 2011 Vero News listed the City of Sebastian and the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce as co-sponsors with the non-profit (Vero News), and the City of Sebastian appeared again among the 2022 sponsors.
The city also supplies the venue. It describes Riverview Park, at 600 U.S. Highway 1 on the corner of C.R. 512/Sebastian Boulevard along the Indian River, as its primary event and gathering point, and lists the Sebastian Fine Arts and Music Event among the major events at Riverview Park (City of Sebastian). In 2022 a round-trip trolley from Sebastian City Hall at 1225 Main Street carried visitors to the grounds on the Saturday (Sebastian Daily).
Where does Sebastian festival money go?
Festival proceeds go to arts programs in Sebastian schools and to public art in the city, according to the organizer and Vero News.
Through donations and scholarships the festival has supported Sebastian Elementary School, Treasure Coast Elementary School, the Sebastian River High School Drama Troupe, the Sebastian River Art Club, Roseland Christian Preschool and the Sunrise Theatre, Vero News reported in 2024 (Vero News). In 2018 Sebastian Daily reported that the art programs at the Sebastian Charter Junior High School, all of the Sebastian elementary schools and four local accredited preschools would receive proceeds (Sebastian Daily, January 18, 2018).
Supplies were the early form of giving. In 2012 the organization planned to donate $3,000 worth of art supplies to local schools, matching its 2011 donation, according to Vero News. Public art came later: the organizer lists a mural at the Tiki Bar and Grill on the Sebastian riverfront and a Highwayman painting displayed at Sebastian City Hall among the projects it has funded (festival site), and in 2024 Vero News reported plans to fund a mural at the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce building. Groups in the Sebastian area apply for a share through a donation request form on the festival site.

Why do the edition numbers not match the 1999 start?
