What amenities does Barefoot Bay have?
Barefoot Bay's amenities are owned and run by the Barefoot Bay Recreation District: three pools, the Lounge, the 19th Hole restaurant, an 18-hole executive golf course, an oceanfront beach park, a river fishing pier, courts, meeting buildings and storage lots.
The district sums up today's community as having three pools, a lounge, and the 19th Hole sports bar and restaurant, as well as an array of entertainment and recreational activities (About Barefoot Bay). Its FAQ lists the activities on offer as fishing, swimming, golf, tennis, pickleball, bocce, handball and shuffleboard courts, horseshoes, lawn bowling, softball, billiards, eateries and live entertainment (BBRD FAQs).

Most of these facilities date to the community's first years. The Barefoot Bay Recreation District history records that the Polynesian-style clubhouse opened in June 1971, with early amenities of a heated pool, a 9-hole golf course, shuffleboard courts, tennis courts, two connecting lakes and a 776-foot-long lit fishing pier over the Indian River; the same history then records the completion of the 18-hole golf course (About Barefoot Bay). In 1984 Barefoot Bay became a special recreation district with a charter authorized by the Brevard County Commissioners.
Who can use the Barefoot Bay amenities?
Barefoot Bay amenities are open to badge holders: property owners and the family living with them, registered renters, and guests on paid passes, with a few facilities such as golf open to outsiders for a fee.
Florida law frames the arrangement. A mobile home park recreation district may charge reasonable fees for admission to or use of its facilities, provided the use of the facilities is extended to residents and nonresident owners within the district, their family members and guests (Section 418.304, Florida Statutes). In Barefoot Bay, social membership is available to property owners, resident spouses or domestic partners, and unmarried children as an incident of ownership, to tenants and guests living in the district, and to other guests upon payment of appropriate fees (BBRD Policy Manual, page 27).
Owners pay once. A new Barefoot Bay owner pays a one-time Social Membership fee that assigns a non-transferable homeowner's badge, and daily, weekly, monthly and annual passes are available for visitors and renters (BBRD FAQs). Badges are checked at the pools: Pool Hosts staff the pools during operating hours to check badges and ensure safety, according to the Property Services section of the FY27 budget (BBRD FY27 budget, Property Services).
The FY27 fee schedule, effective October 1, 2026, prices the passes. A one-day resident guest pass is $5.00, a seven-day guest pass is $10.00 at Resident Relations or $27.00 at the pools, the non-resident pass is $36.00 per person per day, and a renter pays $40.00 per adult per month plus sales tax (BBRD FY27 Fees). The same sheet notes that fees are doubled when no badge is present.
What do the pools, golf course and courts offer?
The Barefoot Bay pools are three district-run pools without lifeguards, each opening at 9am, with Pool #1 staying open latest, until 10pm.
The district lists Pool #1 open 9am to 10pm, Pool #2 open 9am to 8pm and Pool 3 open 9am to 7pm, with the aquatics contact at 895 Falcon Drive (BBRD Community Pools). The Barefoot Bay Recreation District Policy Manual is plain about safety staffing: there is no lifeguard on duty at any of the District's pools, and swimmers swim at their own risk (BBRD Policy Manual, page 30). Seasonal schedules, class times and the full pool rule list sit on the district's pool pages.
Golf is the district's premier amenity. Barefoot Bay Golf Course at 1225 Barefoot Blvd. is an 18-hole executive course of 3,689 yards from the tips, laid out by Joe Lee, with the Pro Shop open 6:30 am to 5:30 pm (Barefoot Bay Golf Course & Pro Shop). The FY27 budget describes an executive par 60 course with a Golf Pro Shop, a cart barn for a 33-cart fleet, a 130-yard driving range and a practice green, and notes that membership is mostly residents with a small number of non-resident members (BBRD FY27 budget, Golf). Owners and golf members have priority for tee times under the policy manual.
Courts and fields fill the rest of the recreation grounds. Barefoot Bay tennis and pickleball courts are reserved through the Calendar Coordinator, and their gates are open from dawn to dusk (BBRD Policy Manual, page 31), with after-dark play arranged by borrowing gate and light keys from the Pool Host at Pool #1 (BBRD Policy Manual, page 32). Shuffleboard, bocce, lawn bowling, horseshoes, miniature golf and handball equipment is issued by the pool host against a badge.
Is there a Barefoot Bay beach and fishing pier?
Barefoot Bay Beach is a 2.3-acre district park on the ocean side of A1A at 8705 Florida A1A, open 24 hours to residents and their guests, with a pavilion and a walkover to the parking area and restrooms.
The district's beach page lists Barefoot Bay Beach at 24 miles and, under Beaches Nearby, Sebastian Inlet State Park at 19 miles and Treasure Shores Beach Park at 17 miles, without saying where the distances are measured from (BBRD Beaches). Barefoot Bay Beach is reserved: the park and beach are for the use of residents and their guests, and guests must have a guest pass secured in advance and displayed on their vehicle (BBRD Policy Manual, page 32).
Overnight use is allowed with limits. While the Barefoot Bay beach park is open 24 hours per day, quiet is kept from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, maximum camping stays are three days, campsites and permits come from Resident Relations, RV and motorhome camping is strictly prohibited, and Brevard County ordinance does not permit dogs on the beach (BBRD Policy Manual, page 33). A key is required for the beach facilities and for the fishing pier, and on the FY27 schedule the initial key for beach and pier is $17.00 per key, with a $25.00 refundable key for renters (BBRD FY27 Fees).
The pier on the Indian River side carries its own rules. Barefoot Bay Recreation District limits the fishing pier to members and guests, allows bait cutting only at authorized stations and bans fish cleaning in district facilities; canoe and kayak owners lease storage at the pier, and, because space is limited, property owners with social membership privileges may rent one unit each (BBRD Policy Manual, page 33).
Dining, events and clubs in Barefoot Bay
Barefoot Bay residents eat and socialize at two district-run venues, the Lounge at 625 Barefoot Boulevard and the 19th Hole at the golf course, and the district hosts clubs and events in its buildings.
The Lounge offers live entertainment and dining, with music every Friday and Saturday evening at Lounge Lakeside, Sunday Street Dances, holiday parties, clambakes and luaus, a 4th of July celebration with fireworks, and Barefoot by the Lake, a festival of music, art and food held each February (Barefoot Bay Pool Bar and Lounge). The FY27 budget adds that the Food Truck was added to the culinary program in May 2022, next to the entrance to Pool #1, and that the 19th Hole at the golf course offers a full bar and table-side service (BBRD FY27 budget, Food & Beverage).
Clubs are the other half of community life. The district owns a centrally located 17,655 square foot, three-building Neighborhood Shopping Center of 12 units, rents space to retailers and lets clubs such as the Civic Volunteer Organization, the Sheriff's Citizens Observer Patrol and veterans' groups occupy space at no charge (BBRD FY27 budget, Shopping Center). Building A, Building D and E and other facilities can be reserved in writing with the district office in charge of calendar coordination, and residents have priority over outside-sponsored activities (BBRD Policy Manual, page 29).
What storage does the district offer?
Barefoot Bay storage amenities are leased spaces: 25 kayak racks at the pier, 97 spaces in the west lot and 274 in the Micco lot for RVs, boats and trailers.
The FY27 budget lists the three storage locations and their size, and says the fenced lots have security cameras and electronic swipe-card entry for residents renting a space (BBRD FY27 budget, Vehicle Storage). On the FY27 fee schedule, RV storage costs $65.00 per space per month plus tax and kayak storage $52.00 per quarter plus tax (BBRD FY27 Fees).
Barefoot Bay RV lots are primarily for residents, but non-residents may lease the facility during the months of May through September, on month-to-month storage lease agreements (BBRD Policy Manual, page 34). That summer window is one of the few district amenities open to people with no Barefoot Bay address, alongside golf memberships and daily non-resident passes.

Do Barefoot Bay renters get amenity access?
Yes, once registered. Renters with a lease of 30 days or more buy renter badges, priced in FY27 at $40.00 per adult per month plus tax, or $360.00 a year; shorter stays use guest passes.
Where is the Barefoot Bay beach?
At 8705 Florida A1A, on the ocean side of the road. The 2.3-acre park has a pavilion and a walkover to parking and restrooms, is open 24 hours, and requires a district key or an advance guest pass displayed on the vehicle.
