What are the Concerts in the Park at Riverview Park?
Concerts in the Park is a free Friday evening live music series at Riverview Park in Sebastian, held each January through May by the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce with the City of Sebastian.
The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce presents the series in partnership with the City of Sebastian, and describes the series as running January through May, free and open to the public, on the lawn beside the Indian River Lagoon. Each show runs from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., so the music starts in daylight and ends after dark over the water.
The setting explains much of the series. Riverview Park sits at 600 U.S. Highway 1, on the corner of U.S. 1 and County Road 512 (Sebastian Boulevard), along the shore of the Indian River. The City of Sebastian lists it as the host of the Clam Bake Festival, the 4th of July Freedom Festival, Shrimpfest and other large events, but the concerts are the event that returns on selected Fridays for four or five months. In January 2025, Sebastian Daily described hundreds of Sebastian residents and winter visitors gathering at the park each year for the shows.
When did the 2026 Concerts in the Park run, and who played?
The 2026 Sebastian series ran eight Friday concerts at Riverview Park between January 23 and May 8, each from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
| Date (2026) | Act | Style |
|---|---|---|
| January 23 | Conspiracy Theory | Multi-genre rock covers |
| February 13 | Swamp Dawg | Southern rock and blues |
| February 27 | Johnny and the Blaze | Oldies, Motown, classic rock |
| March 13 | St. John's Wood | British 50s and 60s |
| March 27 | Glory Days | Classics from the 70s to 90s |
| April 10 | Day Tripper | Beatles tribute |
| April 24 | Sebastian High School Band | Full ensemble |
| May 8 | Pop and rock act | Pop and rock |
According to Sebastian Daily (January 6, 2026), the 2026 series ran on selected Fridays from January 23rd through May 8th, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Riverview Park in Sebastian. Eight concerts were scheduled: Conspiracy Theory, a multi-genre rock cover band, on January 23; Swamp Dawg, southern rock and blues, on February 13; Johnny and the Blaze, oldies, Motown and classic rock, on February 27; St. John's Wood on March 13; Glory Days on March 27; Day Tripper, a Beatles tribute band, on April 10; the Sebastian High School Band on April 24; and a pop and rock act on May 8.
The City of Sebastian event calendar carried two of those dates. Its listing for March 13, 2026 describes St. John's Wood playing 60s and 70s British Invasion music, and its listing for March 27, 2026 gives Glory Days, with hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s, at Riverview Park, 600 U.S. Highway 1, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Both city listings link back to the Chamber, which runs the series.
The previous two seasons in Sebastian followed the same Friday format with different lengths. The 2025 series returned January 10th through May 9th with eight concerts, opening with Reckless Shots and closing with Glory Days, Sebastian Daily reported. The 2024 series ran from January 12th to June 7th with nine shows, from the Bobby Owen Band in January to a June finale, and put the Sebastian River High School band on the April 5 bill as a full ensemble with steel drums.
What happens at a Riverview Park concert evening?
A Riverview Park concert evening in Sebastian means lawn chairs on the grass, food vendors, a free intermission raffle and no alcohol.
The format at Riverview Park has barely changed in two decades. The Chamber asks concertgoers to bring a lawn chair or blanket, local food vendors sell dinner, and at intermission the Chamber draws prizes donated by local businesses. The 2026 announcement told attendees to pick up a free raffle ticket on arrival, for prizes donated by Chamber members. The Lions Club of Sebastian has sold popcorn at the shows since at least the 2012 season, according to Vero News, and a 2014 Vero News report called its popcorn tent a long-time staple of the series.
Two rules come up in nearly every season notice for the Sebastian shows. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the park during the family-friendly concerts, as Sebastian Daily noted in both 2024 and 2026. And there is no reserved seating or ticketing; in January 2010 Vero News reported that the concerts were conducted free of charge on Friday evenings and that parking was available on side streets surrounding Riverview Park. The City of Sebastian parking area in Riverview Park also serves as overflow trailer parking for the Yacht Club boat ramp at 820 Indian River Drive, just north of the park.
The rest of the park stays open around the music. The City of Sebastian lists the Splash Pad, the Veteran's War Memorial, sand volleyball courts, picnic pavilions and twin piers for watching the river or fishing as Riverview Park amenities, and the park is the starting point for the city's scenic riverfront walkways.
Who organizes and pays for Concerts in the Park in Sebastian?
The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce organizes the concerts with the City of Sebastian, which funds them through its Community Redevelopment Agency alongside business sponsors.
The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce books the bands and staffs the shows, and the City of Sebastian is its partner. A December 2016 Sebastian Daily notice credited the series to the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Sebastian. That arrangement goes back at least to January 2010, when the City Council issued a proclamation recognizing the Chamber's 2010 Concerts in the Park Series at its January 6 meeting.
Public money comes through the riverfront redevelopment district. In 2010 the Chamber told Vero News that the funds for the project came from the City's CRA District and that Chamber staff donated over one hundred hours of time to run it, with Melbourne International Airport underwriting the concerts. The City of Sebastian Community Redevelopment Agency still names the Concerts in the Park Series among the Riverfront District events it supports financially, alongside Clam Bake, Shrimpfest and the Fine Art Festival, as events that bring participants and revenue to businesses along Indian River Drive and U.S. 1.
Business sponsors fill the rest. In 2012 Vero News listed the partners as the Chamber, the City, Oculina Bank, Waste Management and Florida Power and Light. For a February 8, 2019 show featuring the Southern Vine Band, Sebastian Daily listed FPL Connect and Oculina Bank among the sponsors, with intermission raffle prizes from the local business community in Sebastian.
How long has Sebastian held Concerts in the Park?
Sebastian has held Concerts in the Park at Riverview Park since about 2000, judging by the season counts Vero News published between 2010 and 2015.
Sources count the seasons slightly differently. Vero News reported in January 2010 that the January 15 concert marked the tenth consecutive year the Chamber had hosted the event. Vero News later called the 2012 season the 13th, the 2014 season the 15th and the 2015 season the 16th, which points to a first season around 2000 at Riverview Park in Sebastian. The CRA project list ties its riverfront event support to the same period.
The early shows were small. In January 2014 the Chamber's president told Vero News that the series began under and around the park's gazebo, the only place in the park with light, when organizers were lucky to see 80 people. By 2014 the Chamber put attendance at anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 for a concert on the Sebastian riverfront. The schedule was longer then: the 2010 season ran 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with concerts into June, and the 2014 season was scheduled to run on selected Fridays until June 13.
Some acts have become fixtures. St. John's Wood played the March 9, 2012 show and returned in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and the Bobby Owen Band appeared in 2012, 2015, 2024 and 2025. In January 2015 Vero News described the series, in its 16th year, as eight outdoor concerts held at Riverview Park along the Indian River Lagoon from January to June. The Sebastian River High School band, billed in 2012 and 2015 as the SRHS Jazz Ensemble and Steel Drum Band, is the one student group that has held a slot in most seasons.
What other music events use Riverview Park?
Riverview Park in Sebastian also hosts a seasonal Rhythm on the River Concert Series and live bands at its larger festivals.
Concerts in the Park is not the only music on the Sebastian riverfront. The City of Sebastian lists a seasonal Rhythm on the River Concert Series at Riverview Park, along with the Sebastian Fine Arts and Music Event and Craft Brew Hullabaloo, and the November Clam Bake and the 4th of July Freedom Festival both book bands on the same lawn. No published schedule for Rhythm on the River was found for 2026.
The Chamber itself runs other events on its calendar, including Grill Out Night on the first Friday in August. For the Concerts in the Park series, the Chamber lists its phone as (772) 589-5969, extension 101, and the City of Sebastian event calendar carries individual concert dates as the Chamber confirms them each winter, usually starting in January.
