Short answer: Sebastian has no city-run weekly farmers market. The most recent series, Afternoons in the Agrihood, ran on select Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. between November 15, 2025 and April 25, 2026 at Spirit of Sebastian, 100 Spirit Boulevard. Kroegel Produce on Indian River Drive sells local produce year round, and in 2013 the Sebastian City Council voted 4-0 against a weekly market in Riverview Park.
Is there a farmers market in Sebastian?
Sebastian does not have a city-run weekly farmers market. Instead, farmers market activity in the city has come in seasonal series organized by private hosts, with the most recent running from November 2025 to April 2026 at the Spirit of Sebastian agrihood off County Road 512. Between seasons, the steadiest source of local produce in Sebastian is a roadside stand on Indian River Drive run by the family of Paul Kroegel, a name Vero News calls virtually synonymous with Sebastian.
The pattern has a documented origin. In October 2013 the Sebastian City Council turned down a proposal for a weekly Sunday market in Riverview Park, and the recurring markets documented since then have been held on private land in Sebastian rather than in the waterfront park. Riverview Park still hosts one-day markets: the City of Sebastian calendar lists a Craft Club of Sebastian October Market Day at Riverview Park, 600 U.S. Highway 1, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., free. That event is a craft market rather than a farmers market.
What was the Afternoons in the Agrihood market?
Afternoons in the Agrihood is a farmers market series hosted by Spirit of Sebastian, which Sebastian Daily describes as Indian River County's first agrihood, a development that integrates sustainable farming with housing, green spaces and community gardens. In a September 24, 2025 announcement, Sebastian Daily reported that the market would take place on select Saturdays from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at The Event Lawn at Heritage Park, located at 100 Spirit Boulevard, in Sebastian, beginning November 15, 2025.
The 2025 to 2026 Sebastian schedule listed six dates: November 15 and December 13, 2025, and January 17, February 14, March 28 and April 25, 2026. Sources differ slightly on the end of the season. The same September 2025 article said the series would run through April 18, 2026, while its own list of dates and a later Sebastian Daily report both give April 25, 2026 as the final market.
Organizers sought vendors offering fresh produce, meats, eggs, baked goods, plants and crafts. The November 5, 2025 preview listed the vendors for the first Sebastian market, among them Kroegel Produce, Florida Juice Company, Jeff and Cheryl's Bees and Wild Thyme Catering, and reported that no vendor spaces remained for November 15. It also gave directions from County Road 512: turn onto S. Wimbrow at the Sherwin-Williams heading west or the O'Reilly Auto Parts heading east, then left onto Delmonte into the Spirit of Sebastian community.
The season finale on April 25, 2026 was a free community event at 100 Spirit Blvd. Sebastian Daily reported fresh-picked produce and native plants, sourdough breads, assorted treats and home goods, along with an educational petting zoo, live music, a kids' zone and a cooking demonstration. Vendors that day included Buen Provecho Farms, Italian Hills Cheese, Craig's Honey and the Environmental Learning Center, and the market doubled as a collection point for school supplies. As of October 8, 2026, no 2026 to 2027 Afternoons in the Agrihood schedule appears in the sources consulted for this page.
Why did Sebastian reject a weekly market in Riverview Park in 2013?
On October 9, 2013 the Sebastian City Council considered a plan for a weekly Sunday farmers market to benefit HALO, a no-kill animal shelter in Sebastian. According to Vero News, the market would take place every Sunday between 8 a.m. and Noon in Riverview Park, in the grassy area east of Indian River Drive, near the Twin Piers. Supporters pointed to the Saturday farmers market in Vero Beach at Ocean Drive and Dahlia as a model that drew people to nearby businesses.
Opposition centered on the park and the Indian River Drive waterfront. Business owners along Indian River Drive warned that parking during earlier park events had blocked access to their shops, a kayak outfitter noted that the proposed area was its launch site, and some residents wanted Sunday mornings in Riverview Park left quiet. Kroegel Produce told the council it was not opposed as long as the market was limited to local vendors.
Council members drew a line between occasional and weekly use of Riverview Park. Vice Mayor Don Wright said the council had approved a lot of one-shot deals, but never any type of weekly event, and that a public park was not the appropriate place. Councilman Jim Hill said he would not allow use of that section every week by any group, and Councilwoman Andrea Coy questioned whether Sebastian could support a market once a week. Mayor Bob McPartlan asked City Manager Al Minner to look for another location. The vote against the proposal was unanimous, 4-0, with one Sebastian council member absent.
Where else have Sebastian growers and makers sold directly?
The longest-running outlet is Kroegel Produce. Vero News reported in October 2013 that the stand is tucked under a canopy of oaks at the southern end of Indian River Drive at U.S. 1, in an octagonal wooden structure on land owned since the late 1800s by the Kroegel family. The family descends from Paul Kroegel, who came to Sebastian from Germany in 1881 and became the first national wildlife refuge manager at Pelican Island, and the stand gives local growers their own special spots.
Before the agrihood series, the ChoZen Artisan Market offered a monthly market in Sebastian. Vero News reported in August 2024 that it would take place every second Sunday from October 13, 2024, to May 11, 2025, from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Harvest House Community Center at ChoZen Eco-Retreat and Sanctuary, 11115 Roseland Road, with more than 33 farmers, makers, artisans and small businesses and tours of ChoZen Farm. Admission was free.
Online ordering has filled gaps between in-person seasons. In January 2022, Vero News described Treasure Coast Harvest as an online farmers market of about 20 Indian River County purveyors, with a Wednesday pickup at Mash Monkeys Brewing Co. in Sebastian. Its newer vendors included Treasure Coast Shellfish, which sells oysters and clams grown in Sebastian.
Markets just outside the city also appear in Sebastian listings. A Sebastian Daily weekend calendar for November 2024 included the Grant Farmers Market at 4580 1st Street, in Grant, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
