What is Long Point Park north of Sebastian Inlet?
Long Point Park is a Brevard County campground and boat ramp on an Indian River Lagoon island north of Sebastian Inlet, at 700 Long Point Road in Melbourne Beach.
Long Point Park is a Brevard County campground on the lagoon side of the barrier island, north of Sebastian Inlet. Its address is 700 Long Point Road in Melbourne Beach, and the county's park listing classifies it as a county park, campground and boat ramp under Brevard County's South Area Operations. For a camper starting in Sebastian, the trip runs across the Indian River Lagoon to State Road A1A, north over the Sebastian Inlet bridge, and into Brevard County before turning toward the lagoon.
Brevard County describes the site as an 84.5-acre conservation area and urban district river park on an island in the Indian River Lagoon, near the Sebastian Inlet marine ecosystems and the Atlantic Ocean. That position explains most of what the park is. It faces the lagoon rather than the surf, so its campsites line the shoreline and its amenities lean toward boats and fishing: a motorized boat ramp, a small fishing dock and a fish cleaning station. The ocean beaches are on the other side of A1A, and the county notes the park is a short drive from attractions in Sebastian and Vero Beach.
The ocean shore across the highway is part of a federal turtle refuge. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service states the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge stretches across 20.5 miles of beach and shoreline habitat between Melbourne Beach and Wabasso Beach, which places Long Point's lagoon island directly behind that refuge coastline.
What kinds of campsites does Long Point have?
Long Point has 170 campsites a short drive north of Sebastian Inlet, 113 of them on the waterfront, in three hookup tiers, plus youth group tent camping on Scout Island.
Of the three public campgrounds near Sebastian, Long Point is the largest by site count. The Brevard County campgrounds page, in its version archived on Nov. 18, 2025, lists 113 waterfront semi-improved campsites with water and electric, 15 improved campsites with water, electric and sewer, and 42 semi-improved campsites with water and electric, for 170 sites in all. The county calls it a full service campground with shoreline campsites and RV and tent camping.
Shared facilities on the Long Point list include showers, laundry facilities, a 1-lane boat ramp, a fish cleaning station, two medium pavilions that seat 60 each, a playground, a wildlife pond, free WiFi, horseshoe pits and a volleyball court. A larger pavilion seats up to 200. Campers fish from the shoreline in front of their sites, from a 100-foot fishing bridge and from the small dock.
The park's second island is Scout Island. Brevard County describes it as adjacent to the camping area and connected by a bridge, offering more than a mile of nature trails and primitive youth group tent camping at a group rate. Organized youth group tent camping is available year-round, including holidays, for nonprofit groups that show proof of status, at $5.87 per person per day with a minimum of 10 campers. The county's list of nearby wildlife on the Indian River Lagoon side reads bobcat, dolphin, otters, manatee, alligator, waterfowl, wood stork and shorebirds. That bridge has been closed since Hurricane Milton, according to the county page checked October 10, 2026.
What does camping at Long Point cost, and how far ahead can it be booked?
Campers from Sebastian pay Brevard County's non-resident rate at Long Point, listed at $47.26 a day and $49.51 from November 1 to April 30 before taxes, with stays capped at 14 days.
Brevard County prices Long Point by residency. On the county's campground page as archived on Nov. 18, 2025, the Brevard County resident daily rate at Long Point was $33.38 year-round. Non-residents paid $47.26 non-seasonal and $49.51 in season, with the seasonal rate running from November 1 through April 30 and applying only to non-Brevard residents. Camping rates do not include taxes, listed as sales tax of 7 percent and tourist tax of 5 percent. A camper from Sebastian, which is in Indian River County, books at the non-resident rate.
Smaller charges sit on top of the nightly rate. The county lists a premium of $2.00 daily for water access sites at Long Point, a boat launch fee of $5.87 daily, an annual boat launch pass at $73.04 and a daily parking pass of $4.69 for day guests. Cancellations made at least 7 days before arrival carry a $20.00 processing fee, with larger fees for later cancellations, and check-out after 11 am is billed as another night.
Residency also sets the booking window. Brevard County residents can reserve up to 395 days (13 months) in advance, while non-residents can book up to 180 days (6 months) ahead, a policy the county put in place effective October 1, 2024 at all three of its campgrounds. The same change set Long Point apart from the county's other two campgrounds: Wickham and Manatee Hammock allow RV stays of up to 90 days, but Long Point Park Campground's maximum length of stay is 14 days for all campers regardless of camping unit. Pet rules are also posted. Dogs are allowed on a short leash for camping patrons only and are prohibited around the lake, picnic areas and playground.

How does Long Point compare with other campgrounds near Sebastian?
Long Point is the largest of the three public campgrounds near Sebastian and the only one listing sewer hookups, but unlike Sebastian Inlet State Park it has no beachfront.
Three public campgrounds sit within reach of Sebastian, and they serve different trips. Sebastian Inlet State Park, just south of Long Point across the inlet, has the beach position: Florida State Parks says its 51 campsites all have water and electrical hook-ups and sit a short stroll from the beach. The state park's fee page lists camping at $28 per night plus tax, plus a nonrefundable $6.70 reservation fee.
On the mainland, Indian River County's Donald MacDonald Park and Campground at 12315 Roseland Road in Sebastian is the small, quiet option. The county describes it on the Saint Sebastian River with 26 primitive campsites and 5 sites with electricity, priced at $25 a night for primitive sites and $35 for electric sites.
Long Point fills the gap between them. It has more than three times the state park's site count, it is the only one of the three listing sewer hookups, on 15 of its sites, and nearly two thirds of its sites, 113 of 170, are on the water. What it does not have is beachfront: the ocean is across A1A, while the Sebastian Inlet State Park campground is a short walk from the sand and the inlet jetties.
| Campground | Operator | Sites | Hookups | Nightly rate | Setting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Long Point Park | Brevard County | 170 | Water and electric; 15 with sewer | $33.38 resident, $47.26 non-resident ($49.51 Nov. 1 to Apr. 30), plus tax | Lagoon island north of Sebastian Inlet |
| Sebastian Inlet State Park | Florida State Parks | 51 | Water and electric | $28 plus tax and $6.70 reservation fee | Beside the inlet, a short walk to the beach |
| Donald MacDonald Park | Indian River County | 26 primitive, 5 electric | Electric on 5 sites | $25 primitive, $35 electric | Saint Sebastian River, Roseland Road |
How have storms and the Sebastian Inlet bridge work affected Long Point?
Hurricane Milton flooded Long Point in October 2024, and the Sebastian Inlet bridge work scheduled from May 2026 sits on the A1A route between Sebastian and the campground.
A low lagoon island takes water in hurricanes. In a release dated Oct. 24, 2024, Brevard County Parks and Recreation said Long Point Campground had been temporarily closed due to flooding and storm damage from Hurricane Milton. The county reopened the campground at 9:00 AM on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, but stated that the boat ramp, fishing dock and bridge would remain closed until further notice. No county release reviewed for this page gives a reopening date for those three structures, so their status is a question for the South Area Parks Operations office at 321-255-4400.
The route from Sebastian has its own disruption in 2026. Florida State Parks posted that, effective May 2026, construction was scheduled to begin on the Sebastian Inlet bridge along Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway, and warned of increased traffic congestion and construction noise. Every trip north from Sebastian and Wabasso to Long Point along A1A crosses that bridge.
The inlet the bridge spans is also what makes Long Point a boating campground. The Sebastian Inlet District describes Sebastian Inlet as one of only five navigable channels that connect the Indian River Lagoon to the Atlantic Ocean. Long Point's ramp puts boats on the lagoon close to that channel, and the county's fee list prices an annual boat launch pass for regular users. The District itself is governed by a five-member commission with three Brevard County seats and two Indian River County seats, a split that mirrors the county line running through the inlet.
As of October 10, 2026, the boat ramp and dock at Long Point Park are closed. The Brevard County Long Point Park page states that the boat ramp and dock closed on Sept. 14, 2026 for reconstruction, with reopening expected in mid-October 2026, and that the bridge to Scout Island has stayed closed since Hurricane Milton in October 2024. The county points boaters to the Sebastian Inlet Boat Ramp at 14251 Highway A1A in the meantime, and it lists no bait store at the park.
