Where is Driskell Memorial Park and what does it have?

Driskell Memorial Park is a City of Palm Bay neighborhood park at 2155 Monroe St NE in northeast Palm Bay, with basketball courts, a pickleball and tennis court, a playground, a gazebo, pavilions and restrooms.

The city facility page gives the address as Driskell Memorial Park Address: 2155 Monroe St NE Palm Bay, FL 32905, and the Palm Bay Recreation parks directory lists the park phone as (321) 952-3443 (City of Palm Bay City Parks directory). The same number appears on most of the neighborhood park listings in the Palm Bay directory, including Liberia Park and Ken Greene Memorial Park.

The Palm Bay amenity list for Driskell covers two kinds of basketball courts, lighted and unlighted, plus a combined pickleball and tennis court, benches, grills, parking, picnic tables, a playground, rentals, restrooms and water fountains (City of Palm Bay facility page). The listed hours are 7am until 10 PM, and the basketball court is the one Driskell amenity the city marks as lighted.

The Driskell listing has no athletic fields, dog park, trail or water access, which separates it from Palm Bay ballfield parks such as Knecht Park and from Goode Park on Turkey Creek and Castaways Point Park on the river, each listed with fishing or boating features in the same directory.

What changed in the 2026 Driskell Park renovation?

The 2026 work gave Driskell Park a renovated restroom building, about 1,000 linear feet of new sidewalk and two rebuilt basketball courts with new goals, and the city announced the park would reopen on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The City of Palm Bay announced the project on April 22, 2026. The city wrote that it would begin CDBG-funded improvement projects at Driskell Park and Liberty Park starting April 27, and that Driskell would be fully closed for the whole job because of the scope of work. The city said the park was anticipated to reopen by June 30.

The planned Driskell work, in the city's words, was a complete interior renovation of the restroom building with new tile and upgraded amenities, exterior building enhancements, replacement and upgrades of approximately 1,000 linear feet of sidewalk, and full removal and replacement of both basketball court surfaces and goals (City of Palm Bay News, April 22, 2026).

The June 30 target slipped. The Palm Bay Recreation Department page announces that Driskell Park (2155 Monroe St NE) will reopen on Saturday, October 3, listing the same restroom, sidewalk and basketball court improvements as recent improvements, and a city news item dated October 2, 2026 said Driskell Park and the new hockey rink at Liberty Park would open to the public that Saturday (City of Palm Bay Recreation Department).

How was the Driskell Park renovation paid for?

The Driskell Park renovation was paid for with federal Community Development Block Grant money that Palm Bay's Community Development Advisory Board steered to the park in two votes, $37,000 in February 2025 and $200,000 in December 2025.

At its February 19, 2025 meeting the Palm Bay Community Development Advisory Board approved staff funding recommendations for parks projects that included Driskell Restrooms and Doors at $37,000, alongside $210,000 for a Victoria Park playground and sunshade and $156,800 for Liberty Park dugouts. The same minutes record that staff verified census tracts first and removed some applications that were no longer eligible.

On December 22, 2025, Palm Bay Parks and Facilities staff, listed under the City of Palm Bay Public Works Department application, presented a request for Driskell Park Basketball Courts: $200,000 to replace two basketball courts and install new sidewalks and sod at the park. The board then approved Driskell Park Basketball Courts at $200,000.00, with $168,349.39 for Liberty Park Phase III and $70,000.00 for Liberty Park Phase IV (CDAB minutes, December 22, 2025).

The deadline drove the schedule. At the April 7, 2026 Recreation Advisory Board meeting, the Palm Bay Parks Manager reported that the previously delayed CDBG funding had been released and must be fully utilized before June 30, 2026, and listed a full restroom remodel plus tile and sidewalk improvements at Driskell Park among the funded projects (Recreation Advisory Board minutes, April 7, 2026).

Driskell is not the first CDBG project in this part of Palm Bay. The city's 2023/2024 Action Plan lists design and engineering of a drainage project in Driskell Heights, benches at Liberia Park and the rebuilding of Liberty Park sidewalks and basketball courts among its 2022 to 2023 CDBG accomplishments (Palm Bay CDBG Action Plan 2023/2024).

Can the Driskell Park pavilion be rented, and what does it cost?

Yes, the Driskell pavilion is a standard pavilion without electric or water that the Palm Bay Recreation Department rents for $50 a day plus tax.

The Recreation Department groups Palm Bay pavilions into tiers by size and utilities. Driskell sits in the tier labeled Standard Pavilion Rentals without Amenities, together with Castaways #2 at Castaways Point Park and Fred Lee #2 at Fred Lee Park on Emerson Drive (City of Palm Bay Rentals). The table compares that tier with nearby options.

Palm Bay pavilions are available 7 days a week from dawn to dusk, and unlike the Tony Rosa and Ted Whitlock community centers they can be rented on city holidays. Reservations are first come, first served, are generally accepted up to one year in advance, and every renter is subject to pre-approval and a contract (City of Palm Bay Recreation rentals rules).

How does Driskell compare with other northeast Palm Bay parks?

Among northeast Palm Bay parks, Driskell is the courts-and-playground stop, while Ken Greene Memorial Park adds a dog park, Liberia Park has the splash pad and Veterans Memorial Park has a lighted football field.

The Palm Bay parks directory lists several parks in the 32905 ZIP code that serve the same neighborhoods (City Parks directory, page 1, page 2). The comparison below uses only the amenities the city lists for each one.

Ken Greene Memorial Park at 550 Riviera Dr NE adds a dog park to the same basketball and pickleball mix, and the directory marks it pet friendly, a label it does not give Driskell (City of Palm Bay City Parks directory).

For a splash pad in the same 32905 ZIP code, the Palm Bay directory points to Liberia Park, whose entry is short: benches, grills, picnic tables, a playground and a splash pad. Driskell offers restrooms, which the Liberia listing does not include.

Who runs Driskell Park and where do questions go?

Questions about Driskell Park work go to the City of Palm Bay Parks and Facilities Department at (321) 726-2777, while pavilion rentals run through the Recreation Department.

For the 2026 renovation, the city directed questions to the Palm Bay Parks & Facilities Department at (321) 726-2777. Recreation handles rentals through the Tony Rosa Community Center at 1502 Port Malabar Blvd. NE, whose rental line is (321) 952-3443, the same number printed on the Driskell directory listing (City of Palm Bay Rentals).

Two Palm Bay advisory boards shape park spending. The Community Development Advisory Board votes on staff recommendations for CDBG public services and capital projects, and the Recreation Advisory Board hears staff reports on park work, as the 2025 and 2026 minutes show (CDAB minutes, RAB minutes).
